Our name is Caribbean for Mermaid... so it's only natural that Mamo Jo is dedicated to the appreciation and care of the oceans - which comprise two-thirds of the earth's surface.
We are
always conscious that our operations be environmentally sustainable. The shells
used in our designs are in abundant supply - some beaches in the world have
the problem of too many shells! We actively recycle as many different materials
as possible and minimise use of packaging in our products.
As part
of our commitment to give back to the oceans and beaches that we cherish,
Mamo Jo contributes a portion of its profits to the Wilderness society of
Australia and actively supports The Surfrider Foundation, which is committed
to preserving the coastal environment and marine life. At a national level,
the Surfrider Foundation has raised public awareness of the pollution of our
waterways and beaches by stormwater and sewerage, resulting in improved treatment
standards at many locations. The Foundation's 24 branches nationwide have
launched many campaigns against threats to local beach environments, carried
out revegetation projects, education campaigns and litter cleanup days.
Mamo Jo is also a proud sponsor of surfing for both men and women. As a surfer herself, Mamo Jo's Chief Mermaid Lisa Carney is particularly interested in the growth of women's surfing and regularly provides sponsorship to upcoming surfers and surfing events. "Magic of the Ocean" encompasses encouragement of men and women to express their creativity, individualism whilst leading healthy, active outdoor lifestyles.
